Octal UART for 3.3 V and 5 V supply voltage

Fabricated using the Philips 1.0 micron CMOS technology, the SC28L198 is low cost, high density and low power, making it a great choice for all sorts of UART applications. Boasting 8 full-duplex asynchronous channels, the single chip CMOS-LSI SC28L198 offers significantly deeper 16 byte FIFOs, automatic in band flow control and address recognition.

With over 22 fixed baud rates to choose from, you can independently select the speed of each receiver and transmitter. The ability to independently program the operating speed of the receiver and transmitter makes the Octal UART particularly attractive for dual speed full duplex channel applications such as clustered terminal systems. A power down mode is available where power consumption is greatly reduced due to the oscillator being stopped but register contents are still maintained.
